emotional anatomy

Emotional anatomy is a framework that recognises the deep connection between our emotions, experiences, beliefs, and the physical body. It suggests that when emotions such as stress, fear, grief, anger, or shame are not fully processed or expressed, they may be held within the body as tension, energetic imbalance, or patterns of holding in specific regions or organs.

This approach is informed by mind–body medicine, psychosomatic principles, and metaphysical anatomy teachings, including the work of Dr. Evette Rose. Rather than viewing the body and emotions as separate, emotional anatomy understands the body as an intelligent system that reflects how we experience and respond to life.

Different areas of the body are often associated with particular emotional themes. For example, the chest and lungs are commonly linked with grief and emotional suppression, the digestive system reflects how we process and integrate experiences, and the throat and jaw may hold unspoken emotions or difficulty expressing truth. These patterns are not about blame or diagnosis, but about awareness and insight.

Energy, sound and breathwork practices work gently with the body’s natural capacity to restore balance by:

  • Encouraging awareness of where emotions are held in the body

  • Supporting the release of stored stress and emotional tension

  • Regulating the nervous system to reduce fight-or-flight responses

  • Creating space for emotional processing without force or re-traumatisation

  • Supporting integration, grounding, and a sense of balance

Emotional anatomy does not replace medical care or diagnosis. Instead, it offers a complementary, holistic perspective that supports emotional wellbeing and self-awareness alongside physical health.

This approach recognises the body as a messenger rather than something that needs to be fixed, allowing healing to occur through awareness, presence, and gentle support.
